Going, Going, Gone: It’s the start of the Summer Sales

May 16th, 2006 | By: Jon | 2 Comments »

The start of the summer sales is getting nearer, especially with the biggest bazaar of them all, the World Cup, just around the corner.

Word is that Sweden’s supremely talented ‘keeper Andreas Isaksson could be on the way out of French club Rennes.

Isaksson told Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter “I’ve got a year left on my contract and I’m planning to stay.”

But the French club have other plans, reckon DN who were listening to the French fans and journalists. It seems Rennes, who missed out on European football next year after poor performances in their two final games of the season.

It seems unfair to blame Isaksson, who has been solid all season, but the ‘keeper may well be sold to raise money as the club look to rebuild.

Just where Isaksson ends up is another matter. DN reckons Werder Bremen is the likely destination. However, Charlton, Wigan, Bolton or even Arsenal could be possible destinations if the Swede performs as well in Germany in the summer as he did in the European Championships two years ago.

I was surprised when I heard about him and Bremen, because I thought the club was very happy with their keeper. On the other hand, id love to see Isaksson signing to a german club just like Alexander Farnerud and Christoffer Andersson.

I think he’s quite suited to the German league. However, i would prefer to see him in the Premier League. He needs to concentrate more though to manage that. The pace of the game is so fast in the UK.

He’ll do well in Germany, though, I am sure.
