I want a midfield place, says Elmander
Brøndby-midfielder Johan Elmander reckons he’s in with a chance of grabbing one of the offensive midfielder places in the Swedish World Cup Team at the expense of Kim Källström or Anders Svensson.
“I want to play in Anders Svensson’s position. I play there for my club and would love the chance to play there for Sweden,” Elmander told Swedish news paper Sydsvenskan.
Given that Källström and Svensson have already made the offensive positions their own, it’s more likely that Elmander is being looked at for a place on the right wing.
Lasse Lagerbäck and Roland Andersson, Sweden’s coaches, typically go for established team players and rarely make surprise changes. Personally, I’d love to see Elmander given the chance ahead of Anders Svensson who looks overweight and two years off the pace at the moment.
