Isak Our Keeper

February 15th, 2006 | By: Nicke | No Comments »

Andreas Isaksson became famous in 1999 when he dominated in Swedish League and Juventus bought him. He showed in Euro 2004 that he is among the best keepers in Europe and in the WC preliminaries he only conceded four goals. In Germany Isak will show that he is as good as Petr Cech who he replaced in Rennes.

The last couple of months Isaksson has struggled with injures which has forced us to look at alternatives and it doesn’t look good. Lagerbäck has chosen to play with Eddie Gustafsson from Lyn in this winter friendly games. Gustafsson is a decent keeper but not a keeper that can dominate in the world cup. John Alvbåge seems to be the third choice, week link that didn’t manage to be the first choice in IFK Gothenburg when he signed for them in 2005, instead he moved to Danish team Viborg. The player that kept Alvbåge out of the team in Gothenburg, Bengt Andersson is the only keeper behind Isaksson that has showed that he can be a world class player. Andersson is also very good at penalty stopping which can be important in a World Cup, unfortunately he is 39 years old and Lagerbäck seems to rely on that Isaksson will be fit and leave Andersson in Sweden this summer.
