Källström Attracting Interest from Real Betis

May 12th, 2006 | By: Jon | No Comments »

The World Cup isn’t just about playing for a big trophy. For many Swedish players it’s about trying to get a contract with a major club.

Kim Källström is the first name to be mooted as a target for one of Europe’s major clubs. The left-footed midfielder currently plies his trade at French Rennes. According to Swedish news agency TT Spanish giants Real Betis are prepared to pay 8 million euros for Källström.

What’s more London club Tottenham are also reportedly interested.

In spite of the speculations, Rennes’ press officer Jerome Poupard told TT “We haven’t received any offers.” However, Poupard admitted that Rennes are willing to sell Källström if a major club comes in for him but they are keen to see him stay at the club, which is currently fifth in the league.

Personally, I’d like to see Källström in the English premiership. He would benefit from playing at a higher tempo and develop as a player. Whether or not he could cut it at a club like Liverpool or Man Utd, I’m not sure, but he’s certainly one of the most exciting left-sided players in the Nordic region. With the World Cup ahead of him, he has a brilliant opportunity to show the world what he’s capable of.

Källström is contracted to Rennes until 2008.
