Källström close to establishing first team place

May 30th, 2006 | By: Jon | No Comments »

Swedish news paper Dagens Nyheter reckons Kim Källström is close to knocking Anders Svensson out of the first team.

In the past Källström, who looks like he is on his way to French champions Lyon, has come on as a substitute for Svensson but Svensson’s failure to make any real mark in England playing for Southampton might have now come back to haunt him. Although he’s done quite well in the Swedish Allsvenskan league, there’s no denying that the quality of the French top division is significantly higher. Källström is highly regarded in France and it seem Lars Lagerbäck has taken this to heart.

Personally, I think it’s time Källström emerged from under Svensson’s shadow. If he plays to his full ability as he did in last week’s match against Finland many commentators will be applauding Lyon manager Gerard Houllier for astutely signing the Swede before the World Cup.
