Mellberg dishes out the dosh

Olof Mellberg has given 75,000 kronor to little Gullspångs IF, the Swedish club he started out at, reports newspaper Aftonbladet.

Mellberg, who has had a poor season at Aston Villa this season, tried to keep the donation quiet but his home town club is about as good as keeping a secret as the bearded defender is at keeping strikers out of the Villa box at the moment.

“75,000 kronor is a massive amount of money for a club like Gullspång. We’ve already bought a second-hand minibus for our youth team when they travel to away matches,” Ulf Gustavsson told Värmlands Folkblad.

With the Villa defence conceding a goal within four minutes at Anfield this afternoon, Mellberg might be back at Gullspång sooner than he might think.
