Olympic Hockey and Football Connection

February 19th, 2006 | By: Nicke | No Comments »

The only thing that can compete with a World Cup in Sweden is an Olympic Hockey tournament. Since 1994 these two tournaments occur on the same year and the performances seem to be connected.

In 1994 the hockey team made a fantastic tournament a won Olympic gold and in the World Cup Sweden surprised the world, scored most goals in the tournament and won the third place game. 1998 was a terrible year, the Hockey team lost against our little brother Finland and could not live up to the expectations and the football team did not even qualify to the World Cup. In 2002 both teams impressed much in the group games, the hockey team won all games and gave Canada a lesson how to play Hockey. In World Cup Sweden won the “Group of Death”, then both teams lost against a minor team after mistakes by their goalkeepers. Sweden has started this years Olympic hockey tournament good and are through to the knockout stage after three victories and one defeat, if the win against Slovakia on Tuesday they might win the group. This means that Sweden will advance to the second round in Germany, if the summer will be a success will be decided this week in Torino when the knockout stage in the hockey tournament starts.
