Sven Announces Unchanged Squad to boost Swedish hopes

May 15th, 2006 | By: Jon | No Comments »

So Sven hasn’t changed his squad. It’s official. No more surprise, no more shocks. The lad from Torsby hasn’t listened to sense so England’s stuck with two crocked players: Rooney and Owen, a teen sensation no one has seen and the weight of a country’s expectation upon his shoulders.

Expect England to falter.

Let’s face it, Sweden has nothing to prove. No one in this country expects us to win. Sure, there would be consternation if we didn’t qualify from the group stages, but there wouldn’t be a national witchhunt if we didn’t. But England? England expects. Especially as it’s on German soil. And as Steven Gerrard admitted at the weekend, they fancy their chances on German soil more than in 2010 in South Africa when the climate is unlikely to favour the typically sensitive English complexion.

As the Sweden / England match edges closer and closer, the psychological war will rage. With Sven’s dubious squad selection still standing and his hot shot strike duo looking more like crocked-shots, Lasse Lagerbäck could be forgiven for feeling quietly confident.
