sweden lose last minute heart breaker

June 15th, 2008 | By: Andrew | 4 Comments »

Spain scored first and dominated the pitch early on. However Sweden came back with a beauty of a goal by Zlatan to tie the game. Sweden then started to gain momentum and was able to control the match. Spain and Sweden played to an almost even second half. However a late ball thrown into the Swedes box was misplayed by the swedish defender and david villa slipped through and took the game winning shot in the 92rd minute. All I have to say is How. Sweden looked to win if not at least tie. One costly mistake and Sweden must win with russia to secure their spot in the quarter-finals. We played well and I beleive we won the match. We dominated the offensive side yet lacked in the defensive midfield side, where spain controlled much of the action. Its win or go home now as sweden take on russia wednesday 20:45 euro, 2:45 et.

That was a real pity. I was for Sweden as always and I thought the Swedish defence had been very solid up until then. Well let’s keep our fingers crossed against Russia.

What a rubbish recap.

“We played well and I beleive we won the match. We dominated the offensive side…”

Sweden had around 30% possession. That is absolutely horrible. After Zlatan left Sweden had no sustained possession in the attacking third at all. Any neutral observer with an idea of football would admit Spain won deservingly.

Heck, even most Swedes I’ve talked to here agree Spain deservingly won the game.
