Sweden Man of the Match: Rami Shaban

June 10th, 2006 | By: Jon | 8 Comments »

Rami Shaban was my Man of the Match. The 30-year-old former Arsenal keeper came in at short notice, replacing the injured Isaksson, and played a blinder.

He was confident, came for the ball on crosses, pulled off a couple of superb saves and looked like he belonged between the posts for the entire match.

Despite Isaksson’s status as Sweden’s number one for the last couple of years, Lars Lagerbäck may well find himself under pressure to keep Shaban in the team after a performance like this.

Also worth mentioning

Zlatan Ibrahimovic: Zlatan played well, showing the skill and vision that’s made him a household name in Italy and Sweden. He was unlucky not to score.

Olof Melberg: The captain hasn’t played well for Aston Villa all season but seems to have got his concentration back at last. He stood up when he was needed, ran hard all match and did well to close down Trinidad & Tobago as they tried to hit Sweden on the counter attack late on.

I think when it comes to T&T, Hislop was superb. He was my MOTM for them. But Shaban was playing his second proper competetive game for his country. That takes nerves of ice.

So should Shaban start against Paraguay? I too thought he played great, especially that first half save.

One more thing about the TNT game…. I am not one to complain about the Refs, but how can the ref add 3 minutes of stoppage, have the first 2 minutes used by a TNT player “hurt”, and than still call for full time right after 3 minutes. Also, how was Hislop not carded? The ref warned him 3-4 times, becuase he was taking 30+ seconds every goal kick. Just card him, and he will stop. But since the ref did not card him, he continued to do so.

first thing, Nate you’re absolutely correct. The T&T-palyers used the time very well int he match, they acted hurt and all kind of things. Three minutes? honestly mate, that’s a fucking joke.

And now I´m gonna comment this message. Well why change to Rami Shaaban wwhen we have Isaksson, i mean there’s nothing worng with him, is there?

Don’t get em wrong Rami Shaaban is also a wonderful keeper, but that was one amtch against a somewhat lousy team.

Don’t forget Isakssonä’s match against Czech Republic in a freindly, that was stunning!

We ahven’t seen Rami Shaaban playing against such a good team yet, but we certainly have with Isaksson. And he’s done it marvelously so he’s still first. I mean, one good game against “Isak”’s many good games, soo..

Maybe Rami should stand in the goal tomorrow, Isak has yet to recover fully from his concusion so..

An another player I think Lagerbäck should have the guts to change is Zlatan, he doesn’t seem to be in a good condition right now.

I think Lagerbäck should consither changing Ibrahimovic to Allbäck. Marcus Allbäck has done very amny goals. Ok that was in the Danish leauge, but still ..
