Ten Things Last Night’s Match Revealed

June 21st, 2006 | By: Jon | 25 Comments »

1. Sven-Göran Ericksson doesn’t know how to use substitutions

2. Matias Jonson isn’t much of a defender

3. Anders Svensson’s days in the national squad are numbered

4. Kim Källström has the appetite and attitude for the big match

5. Isaksson still flaps at crosses and shots from outside the box.

6. Frank Lampard is not the midfield dynamo he’s cracked up to be

7. Michael Owen is becoming a liability

8. Freddie Ljungberg is a bit of a girl’s blouse because he spends too much time complaining to the ref about being fouled instead of just getting on with the game

9. Sweden plays better against supposedly better teams

10. England don’t have the mental strength to win this World Cup

We definitely play better under the pressure from better teams. Good sign for the match against Germany, I suppose.

Hey, it is Ljungberg’s rage that has saved us this far!

England is still capable of winning the world cup.J Cole and S Gerrard can be used as strikers.

Anyways it was a good game with a couple of lucky goals for Sweden ;)

Good luck with Germany :)

Arguably, i am a bit disappointed with Sweden. I don’t really understand why they only pushed it when in disadvantage. When at 1-1 they could easily have tried for the win, since England’s defence was all over the place. I mean, for Allback to score. He’s the perenial ‘almost’. They can’t fancy beating Germany. Or can they?

Does anybody know whether Ibrahimovic will be back for the next one?

sweden had the better team yesterday. That said the first half was terrible and in the second half it was just bad luck.

I hoped we would face england and not sweden because england has some fitness problems and showed three bad performances in my oppinion.

One of my two favorite teams will leave the cup early given the fact that my mother is from sweden but my heart is with germany.

So good luck sweden and a good game but hopefully not too good.

12. Elemader should play more than 10 minutes a game

13. Edman/Lucic/Mellberg are quietly having a great cup.

14. Isaacsson looked bad on both goals and starting to be a liability that will be tested against Germany

15. Beckham is better at celebrity than football

15. Sven is going to be out of a job shortly

Hey, I’m from Germany, but an absolute supporter of the swedish football team.
I’ve been to Sweden and fell in love with it almost the instant I first saw it. I found it to be one of the most … beautiful, greatest, whatsoever countries I’ve ever seen, hence my love for the swedish team.
But now I have one problem. The language. I’ll start my language lessons in september probably, but until then, I don’t know more than… a little bit.

But now my “problem”. I’ve been to the public viewing to see every sweden match, and I sang along with the “Sverige”, the “Heja, Sverige, Heja” and that, but then all of a sudden the fans started to sing something that sounded like “iiin then fullenden moond” [well that's how it sounds to me as a german]

So I wondered… maybe one of you could tell me what they’re actually singing? It’d be great.

Thanks,

Lisa

Thank you so much, Ella! I think that’s exactly what it is ;)

So… Iiiin med bollen i mål!

Well, now that I think about it, it doesn’t sound like In den fullendenmond at all, but well… ;)

thanks!

Frank & Ricardo:

How can Sweden be the better team when they struggled to beat 10-men T & T ?

Sweden also struggled against Paraguay.

England is not the best team of the tournment but they are surely better than Sweden.

Rebin, I think it’s like Jon said in his first post, no. 9. “Sweden plays better against supposedly better teams.”
I don’t know why, but they play better if they’re under pressure, if their opponent is a better team. At least that’s what I think after seeing the last 3 matches.
I think the chances are 50-50 … And I hope Sweden wins.

“How can Sweden be the better team when they struggled to beat 10-men T & T ?”

1. You watched the match and especially the second half?

You do not believe that england had a little bit of luck and played as they had a very long and hard party the day before?

2. You watched england against T&T and your first match.
So to archive a late goal in the 84th minute because of a clear foul without having real chances before and playing really ugly football is better in your oppinion than the swedish match against T&T.

At the present form i want to play england because in my oppinion these guys have at least a fitness problem and also play a style that is more or less easy to defend.

The first englsih goal was a great goal but one great action by a lucky guy and after that england left the field for the rest of the match. But to be fair england dominated the match in the first half.

And as a german i hope to meet a swedish team that plays first half style because otherwise it will be very tough.

I’m backing Sweden against Germany and after watching Hol v Arg last night, I think you do have a chance but will need to pull off your best performance so far.

I think Sven was Sweden’s 12th man against England.

Best of luck.

too old, too few ideas in the middle and too pretty.
Der Lack is ab, as they say in Germany. (Sweden needs a new paint job.)

Lynn,
Don’t forget sweden dominated 2nd half against you…and you haven’t played anyone besides sweden (who you haven’t beat in your lifetime) so you should focus on trying to beat ecuador!
