Weekend Report
Not much happened in the weekend, which is pretty obvious since the Swedish league season begins at the 31th of March. However, some of our national team players continue to shine abroad, several players scored important goals. Among those where Christian “Chippen” Wilhelmsson who scored the important 1-1 goal on a penalty in the first half. His Deportivo La Coruna continued their excellent 2008 streak by winning 2-1 against Sevilla.
In England, Sebasitan Larsson once again scored for his Birmingham as they defeated Tottenham with 4-1. His free-kick effort meant 2-0, however you must admit that Finnish striker Mikael Forsell was the man of the match, scoring a great hat-trick.
NEC Nijmegen defender Jonas Olsson seems likely to make his first national team appearance in the not too distant future. This weekend, he gave NEC the lead by scoring 2-1 against Feyenoord Rotterdam. The defender made his first goal since he came back from the injury that made a January-transfer impossible.
Markus Rosenberg scored twice as Werder Bremen defeated Borussia Dortmund with 2-0. The former Ajax attacker seem,s at the moment, to be the number one forward in the German top flight club.
Decent weekend scoring-wise and the only real worry right now is the injury situation. Tobias Linderoth in Galatasaray will continue to battle against the time, but it seems likely that he will be fit for the EC. Zlatan Ibrahimovic struggles with a knee injury and didn’t play, and Inter should probably be happy that their home game against Liverpool in the Champions League isn’t today or tomorrow.
Also, Marcus Berg missed Groningen’s game because of a back injury, but no real worry there, he’ll probably be back for their next game.
