Allsvenskan Round 22 and 23 Review!
I am quite busy at the moment and simply do not have the time to give the complete and proper reviews for all the games played in the last two rounds. For this reason, I am giving a quick update here so that I can focus on Friday´s European Championship qualifier against Hungary in more depth. Look for that post tomorrow!
Round 22
Kalmar broke their lost points streak by beating the stuffing out of a less than solid Norrköping. Final score was 5-0 and the guests were never even close.
After their catastrophe away in the Champions League play-off against Dynamo Zagreb, real life took hold and Malmö hosted GAIS. Thanks to bad goal keeping, Malmö eeked out a 2-1 home win.
Häcken beat Djurgården 2-0 and it isn´t a stretch to say that Djurgården may need a miracle to survive in the Allsvenskan this season.
Elfsborg got an away win at Syrianska with the final number on the board reading 2-0. There is nothing to add to this game believe it or not.
AIK proved the power of the home fortress as they slaughtered Trelleborg in a 3-0 win. Teteh Bangura? Who is that?
Helsingborg continued their season long history of winning with a single goal in a 2-1 victory over Halmstad.
Göteborg put Gefle to the sword. 3-0 at home ain´t too shabby!
Mjällby overcame their performance issues and beat Örebro 2-0 away.
Round 23
Norrköping beat Djurgården 2-1 in a game that had me scratching my head. Perhaps there is some hope for Norrköping after all?
Halmstad got their second win of the year, I think, with a 1-0 victory away against Trelleborg.
Kalmar and Göteborg slugged it out to a 0-0 draw in which the highlight was the raining of yellow cards from an inept Swedish referee.
Gefle proved they have some fight in them after all and managed a 2-2 at home against Häcken.
Örebro continued their losing streak away at Helsingborg with a 2-0 loss. Rasmus Jönsson is on his way to Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga now, so the question is how long Helsingborg can keep performing?
AIK beat Syrianska 1-0 and no one was surprised. I wonder what the betting odds were in this game?
GAIS beat a Mjällby at their seasons worst with 3-0.
Finally in the big surprise of the round, Malmö beat Elfsborg 2-1 and showed what their newfound confidence can mean back in the Allsvenskan.
_______
Sweden takes on Hungary on Friday in a game that means just about life and death for our European Championship hopes.
I will have a full preview tomorrow with squad news and in depth coverage.
I will insert three quick spoilers here: Mellberg is missing from the team, and Gera is out injured, as is the winger Balazs Dzudzsak (spelling?). Much more to come tomorrow!
