Freddie Ljungberg works his foot through its paces
So Freddie Ljungberg is continuing his rehabilitation. Reports have been emerging during the day here in Stockholm that Ljungberg and his knickers have been training that infamous injured right foot at a gym in Stockholm.
Yesterday Ljungberg was the only member of Sweden’s World Cup side to miss training causing a wave of speculation to [...]
Sweden happy to be underrated
So Jon Bodkin, writing in the UK Guardian, reckons Sweden are an aging squad with many players past their best. It smacks a bit of protesting too much, to me. You can understand why the English are trying to label Sweden as goal shy: clearly they hope to build their own confidence after such a [...]
To be or not to be?
The big question for many Swedes is whether “Anders Svensson or Kim Källström?” should be given the nod.
Lars Lagerbäck and Roland Andersson’s answer seems to be Källström. Well, at least as far as Thursday’s friendly is concerned.
Källström won’t get a better chance to make the midfield position his ahead of Sweden’s opening [...]
‘Keeper to be given chance against Finland
Former Arsenal ‘keeper Rami Shaaban will make his international debut against Finland on Thursday in a friendly. Shaaban, who currently plays in neighboring Norway, replaces Andreas Isaksson who injured himself in training on Wednesday.
Shaaban now has a superb chance to show that he’s the number 2 ‘keeper if Isaksson suffers a similar fate in [...]
Ljungberg’s Injury Sounds Serious
Okay, so England have got Rooney crocked. Now it looks like Freddie “Let me model in my knickers” Ljungberg’s injury may keep him out of the opening match of the World Cup. What’s more, it could restrict him considerably during the tournement.
Swedish news paper Dagens Nyheter soberly broke the story late Monday evening. According [...]
Lagerbäck’s favourites
Lars seems to have chosen the starting squad before he even had the chance to have a closer look at their shape. Maybe they all had to run in circles at the airport? It would have been a good laugh though…
According to DN Sport the team looks like described here. There is also a [...]
Zlatan Knocks Sweden’s Chances
Zlatan Ibrahimovic doesn’t think Sweden can win the World Cup. So much for confidence, eh?
The striker is tipping Brazil.
“It’s good enough that we actually made it to the World Cup,” Zlatan told the Swedish Football Association.
It’s a bit of a turn around. Last year Zlatan was tipping us to actually win. Perhaps this is [...]
Gerrard to play as striker
According to the BBC, Sven-Göran Eriksson has mooted the idea of Steven Gerrard playing as a striker for England at the World Cup.
Eriksson said: “Steven Gerrard can play in a lot of positions and one is as a second striker.
“I’m sure he could play as first striker but a lot depends on Rooney.”
With Wayne Rooney [...]
Going, Going, Gone: It’s the start of the Summer Sales
The start of the summer sales is getting nearer, especially with the biggest bazaar of them all, the World Cup, just around the corner.
Word is that Sweden’s supremely talented ‘keeper Andreas Isaksson could be on the way out of French club Rennes.
Isaksson told Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter “I’ve got a year left on my [...]
Sven Announces Unchanged Squad to boost Swedish hopes
So Sven hasn’t changed his squad. It’s official. No more surprise, no more shocks. The lad from Torsby hasn’t listened to sense so England’s stuck with two crocked players: Rooney and Owen, a teen sensation no one has seen and the weight of a country’s expectation upon his shoulders.
Expect England to falter.
Let’s face [...]
